Steven Painter is the founder of James 2:18 Ministries. He was not always a follower of Christ, but converted when he was in his mid-20s.
Over the past decade, Painter has worked as a social studies and language arts teacher for middle and high school students. As he used his gift for teaching, he began to notice that students were struggling with their mental health – especially after the 2020 shutdowns due to Covid-19.
Seeing this problem in students, Painter researched the wider problem of mental illness in adults. After seeing the difficulties people with mental illness have in trying to navigate the American healthcare system, while also trying to maintain a job and family life, Painter decided to start a ministry to help those who are often forgotten by the church. This is how James 2:18 Ministries got its start.
Prior to working as a teacher, Painter held positions as an associate for a legal reference book publisher and a newspaper reporter. He has a master’s degree in media arts from the University of Arizona and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of New Mexico.
Painter has a wife and daughter. He enjoys spending time with them, reading, hiking, watching sports, and collecting sports cards in his free time.
