Daily Devotional

Since September 2025, we have sent weekly devotions to inpatient behavioral health hospitals.

These studies will include:

  • A Bible verse

  • Discussion of the context of the Bible verse

  • Ways for the verse to be applied to patients in a behavioral hospital

  • Discussion questions for small groups

  • Directory listings of counselors and churches in the area where patients can go once discharged

Here is a sample devotional:

Romans 8:35

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 

Paul poses a series of rhetorical questions in this section of his letter to the church at Rome. Each question posed is meant to seem ridiculous in light of the great love God has shown to us through the sacrifice of His son – Jesus Christ.

In verse 35, Paul asks “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?” The answer is no one. Christ gives His love freely. Nobody can stop Him from doing so. The only question is, will we accept His love?

Sometimes we feel like we can’t accept Christ’s love because of the things Paul mentions in the second part of the verse. Tribulation is a period of great trouble or suffering. You’re probably in the midst of tribulation right now. No matter the trouble, Jesus loves you. You may not feel it at the moment, but it is there. It might not even appear in a way you’d expect it to, but a kind word or action, even small ones, can go a long way to make suffering bearable. Be on the lookout for those little expressions of Christ’s love today. They’re out there.

Now, maybe you aren’t in the middle of tribulation, but you feel distress. Life looks hopeless to you. Understand that Jesus loves you. Again, look for the little expressions of His love in your life today.

His love doesn’t end, even when you are struggling with your mental health.

Prayer: Lord, I know that your love cannot be stopped by anyone or anything. You give your love freely. May my heart be accepting of your love even though I find it difficult to discern it at this time. Give me the eyes to see your love in action in my life today. Let the distress and struggle caused by my current situation melt away as I search for your love. Amen.
